Why Crop for Social Media?
Each platform has optimal dimensions. Instagram Post is 1:1 (1080×1080). Instagram Portrait is 4:5 (1080×1350). Stories and Reels are 9:16 (1080×1920). X (Twitter) uses 16:9 (1200×675). YouTube thumbnails: 16:9 (1280×720). Cropping to these ratios ensures your images display correctly without letterboxing or cropping by the platform.
Center Crop Logic
We use ctx.drawImage with source/destination parameters to center-crop. If your image is wider than the target ratio, we crop the sides. If taller, we crop top and bottom. The center stays in frame.
Available Presets
Instagram Post (1:1), Instagram Portrait (4:5), Instagram Story (9:16), TikTok (9:16), X/Twitter (16:9), YouTube Thumbnail (16:9), YouTube Short (9:16). Each preset outputs at standard pixel dimensions for that platform.
1:1 vs 4:5 for Instagram
1:1 is square—classic feed post. 4:5 (portrait) shows more vertical content and often gets more reach. Choose based on your image composition.
How to Crop for Social Media
Upload your image. Select platform preset (e.g., Instagram Story). Click crop. Download. We center-crop to fit the aspect ratio. All processing is client-side.
Composition Tips
Place important elements near the center—edges may be cropped. For 9:16 stories, vertical compositions work best. For 1:1, square framing in-camera helps.
Social Media Image Dimensions 2024
Standards change slowly. Our presets match current recommendations. Instagram: 1080px width. YouTube: 1280×720 for thumbnails. TikTok/Reels: 1080×1920. Always verify platform docs for updates.
Export Quality
We output JPEG at 92% quality. Sufficient for social. For print or archival, keep originals and crop separately.
